The inflammation caused in any fibrous or connective tissue in our body is medically termed as Fibromyalgia. The main characteristics of this disease include general pain in the muscles, repeated fatigue, and several tender points that are localized in the body due to these symptoms.
Commonly called rheumatism, the disease is also popularly known as fibrosistis, fibromyalgia and also fibromyositis. The main causes and symptoms of this muscle disease are described below.
Although the medical community has come up with advanced technologies and powerful medicines, they have not yet been able find any known cause for rheumatism. Most of the doctors are of the opinion that that this disease may be caused due to genetic factors. However, there are also others that believe that the geographical position of a person’s home is the main cause of fibromyalgia. People who are suffering from fibromyalgia usually complain about three symptoms. These are – pain in muscles and joints, stiffness and also fatigue, that is usually a result of sleep disturbance.
However, pain is the most predominant symptom here. The sufferer complains of pain without any reason that is apparent. Furthermore, stiffness and aches of multiple joints and muscles also contribute to the pain. The sift tissues suffer from tenderness in this condition. If that is not enough, the pain also moves from one part of the body to another. The pain is most common in come areas of the body such as in the neck, arms, hands, shoulders, legs, hips, chest and back.
The fatigue, as doctors say, are a result of the coupled chronic pain of an individual. The inflammatory condition that develops in the body due to this disease produces enzymes that are known to cause fatigue. Some other symptoms including the ones mentioned above include diarrhea, difficulty in swallowing, tension headaches, tingling or numbness of the extremities and also recurring abdominal pain. However, people suffering from rheumatism should also be aware of the fact that anxiety, stress, depression and continues lack of sleep significantly increase the symptoms.
Coming to the treatments of the disease, there is no absolute and precise cure. Therefore, doctors and the patients themselves have to search for options that will alleviate the symptoms of the disease. An excellent way to do this is to integrate some regular exercises, take sufficient amount of rest, enroll yourself for some lessons in stress management and maintain a clean and healthy diet.
